You can read more about the exhibition in the text “The Photographer’s Take on the Exhibition.” It provides a detailed description of how the exhibition came to be, mostly written last year, before the actual photography was complete and prior to the exhibition’s implementation.
Exhibitions of this magnitude are normally prepared by museums or galleries or large groups of artists with collaborators of various types. Their budgets are defined in advance, financing is secured. Individuals without background support do not embark on such ventures, because the administrative side consumes far more time than the creative.
My exhibition is different. It was conceived on the fly, with photographs taken over the course of an entire year, and it took more than the past half-year to put it all together, with daily uncertainty over its finalization. It is literally a modern combination of Gesamtkunstwerk and a one-man-band, while the administrative entanglements transformed it into a genuine work in progress.
It came about with the essential assistance of friends, those rare institutions that had confidence despite everything, and a few collaborators/fellow travellers in a quixotic pandemonium.
It was made by an independent workaholic artist who is genuinely independent and who can therefore afford such a FOREWORD.
